Answering The Call

The ordination of Don Darling and Tommy Green

The Night of Worship and ordination service offered blessed reassurance that while many things change with each New Year, our GOD is constant and faithful.  The worship team led us into the presence of God with songs of praise, and reminded us of how creative God really is.  Only He can unite a room filled with diversity into a place of worship, a place of wonder, of Awe!  All for his Glory, Amen!

John spoke of the first ordination and explained its origin found in Acts 13.  A pastor must first be called by God; second, the elders are given a clear discernment of the candidate’s genuine walking with Christ; third, the assignment, which begins with prayer, elders laying hands on the pastors, and sending them off to fulfill their call to ministry; and so it was Sunday night at Centerpoint.

Tommy Green and Don Darling  gave their personal testimonies along with a witness to each one’s Christian walk and growth in the Lord.  “I am addicted to seeing lives changed through Jesus Christ”, declared Tommy.  Tommy’s personal witness, Eric Lynch, from Mt. Pleasant, Texas affirmed Tommy’s passion and intentional pursuance of Jesus’ heart.   Church Elder Ben Byrd also provided witness that Tommy is a man of the Word and wise counsel.

Don Darling followed with a personal testimony of his walk with Christ, full of humor and sincerity.  Admitting his many trials and challenges throughout his lifetime, Don’s testimony included a comparison with “running the good race.”  In his typical humorous fashion, he stated that he may not ever hear the words “well done my good and faithful servant,” rather he may hear something like “Well, Don, pretty good little sprint towards the end.”

Craig Clement, President and Chairman of the Board of Elders, gave witness on Don’s behalf.  He reflected on the earlier days of Centerpoint meetings before we had a name or a church we had a few Christian men meeting in prayer and fellowship. They all recognized that God was calling them to something extraordinary.  Craig credited Don with exhorting the original group of founders to act on the calling that God placed on each of them.  He gave testimony of Don’s faith and obedience saying “He got out of the boat and walked on water.”   Faith in practice!

After testimonies, the elders laid their hands upon both Tommy and Don in prayer and invited the congregation to do the same.  The presence of the Holy Spirit was strong, and this writer was humbled to tears.  At the closing of the service, Shelley Green shared a message that the Lord had placed on her heart earlier in the week. She challenged all of us to pray, “God, what are you calling me to do?”

Will we dare get out of the boat in faith to walk on water?  With God’s help we will.
